NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Dec. 13, 2011) – Constant creative refinements in compression sock design, along with the use of quality materials and construction techniques have earned Swiftwick the respect of athletes around the world. Swiftwick made a commitment to manufacturing in Tennessee and set a priority in its employee and contractor recruitment effort to hire individuals with disabilities. That decision recently resulted in an employer of the year award, the second such award for the company in as many years.

Swiftwick Accepts Employer of The Year Award
The Nashville Area Employment Consortium and Tennessee Business Leadership Network selected Swiftwick as one of five Employers of the Year, resenting awards at their fifth annual luncheon on Oct. 25. In recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month, these two organizations partner each October to honor businesses that have been successful in providing employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
“Our rabid customer who loves their Swiftwick socks made this possible,” said Mark A. Cleveland, company President. “Maybe without knowing it, every consumer who buys Swiftwick compression socks, helps provide an employment platform for individuals who are just as rabid about quality control, who touch and inspect every pair and who may happen to also have a disability.”

Swiftwick employs more than two dozen full time employees and contractors involved in local sales, production and packaging operations. A contributor to the community in many ways beyond its employment of individuals with special needs, the company helps a wide variety of charities and organizations nationwide by designing custom, co-branded socks. Colorful socks with a collectible design, a school logo or team slogan and creative graphics have proven to be a fantastic fund raising tool.
The company won its first Employer of the Year award in 2010 and shared the stage with Salvatore “Sal” Pellegrino, who at the same time was recognized as 2010 Employee of the Year in Williamson County. Sal’s commitment to keeping pace in a demanding workplace is evident today. Then, as now, all employees at Swiftwick share in and take pride in this award because together they create the environment where anyone can be productive. “Five Nashville area employers earned this honor, which tells you a lot about what’s happening in Nashville,” Cleveland adds, “but it was a surprise to my team because we stopped thinking in terms of a disability, rather we focus on abilities.”
The other companies honored at the Oct. 25 luncheon were Delaware North Companies, Hampton Inn, Publix Fieldstone Farms and Primrose School Hendersonville. The Nashville Area Employment Consortium is a collaborative group of employment service professionals that works closely with the Tennessee Business Leadership Network to provide information to the business community about the benefits of hiring persons with disabilities. Activities include Lunch and Learn events, Disability Employment Month in October, and an Annual Awards Banquet in October.
The Tennessee Business Leadership Network provides employers with education and resources, and helps organizations realize the business imperative of including individuals with disabilities in the workforce and marketplace.
